hey everybody,

I got a problem with disturbing noise when a sample starts to play and when it stops.
This is just noticable when I´m playing quiet parts or when I´m using Headphones.

I recorded the behavior with the piano sound (SalamanderGrandPiano_adapted v2.2).
(...but it´s the same with every other sound.)
You can clearly hear a click at the beginning and in the end.
You can find file attached to this post.

I assume this depends on the hardware I´m using, so some Specs:

Rasperry Pi 2B
Hifiberry DAC+
Latest Image Sbox20200810

Does anybody got an idea?

Cheers

Hi DrumBox,
I can't reproduce the click, but do notice some rumbling present in your sample. No clue yet.
I'm now testing with an el cheapo DAC which may cause rumbling, next week I can test with my HiFiBerry box.

Hi DrumBox,
With a quality DAC it can be heard, in other words: I can hear it too with my production box.
The behaviour revived memory; it appears exact the same thing was reported a year ago but we left as being too small (and he had more pressing requests..).
What I notice:
  • It's only at sound end, I don't hear it in the beginning
  • It's hardly noticable; you need to have a quality DAC and use headphone and/or set your amplifier too high for your neighbours
  • It's only at sound end, notes-off go unnoticed when another sound is playing - no matter at how low volume.
So it seems to be related to a sound system being switched off / a queue being thrashed.
My findings contradict with the old ("at every wav") and your report even adds "sample start".
The old report makes sense as he always uses mode=once.
For your new report I have no logical explanation as of yet.
Time for creative thinking, I'll put it on the issue list this time.
