Hello,
I hope you are doing well. First of all, thank you for SamplerBox — it’s a fantastic and very useful project.
I am currently trying to run SamplerBox on a Zynthian V5 main board. My setup uses SamplerBox together with an autosampler workflow, but unfortunately the official SamplerBox system image seems not to properly support the MIDI input/output of the Zynthian V5 main board.
From what I understand, this may be related to differences in the hardware abstraction and audio/MIDI stack. The Zynthian V5 uses a custom main board with its own MIDI routing (via internal USB MIDI, ALSA configuration, and specific device naming), while the SamplerBox image appears to be built around a more generic Raspberry Pi MIDI setup (typically USB MIDI or standard GPIO-based UART MIDI).
Because of this, the MIDI ports from the Zynthian main board do not show up correctly or are not accessible to SamplerBox when using the official image.
I was considering an alternative approach and wanted to ask for your opinion:
Would it make sense to install the standard Zynthian OS image, remove unnecessary components, and then install SamplerBox manually on top of it?
Do you have any recommendations regarding:
  • The best way to integrate SamplerBox with an existing ALSA/JACK-based system like Zynthian?
  • Any specific dependencies, kernel modules, or MIDI configuration details I should be careful with?
  • Whether SamplerBox can reliably work using ALSA MIDI ports instead of expecting specific device names?
If you have any suggestions, documentation, or past experiences running SamplerBox outside of its official image, I would really appreciate your guidance.
Thank you very much for your time and for creating such a great tool.
Best regards, Mello
