Yes, it is possible to run samplerbox from a normal linux desktop as it is "just a python app".
I and many others did/do.
You may encounter latency, as samplerbox as quite cpu intensive sometimes and desktops have more things to do.
You'll need to use the sources from github and adapt some config values, install any missing packages / python libraries as well as create some symbolic links for the hard coded directories in the script. Just run is as root (sudo) act upon the error messages.
Coming release will be a bit friendlier with respect to directories.
I don't have docs for doing such things as I publish for "use it as you like".
If somebody has/makes instructions, I can add (a link to) them in the docs.
